Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, Health Insurance Marketplace is just around the corner in November. This is good news for insurance brokers and agents — and bad news for anyone who hasn’t already bought coverage.
For those millions who still don’t have health insurance, the cost of not buying coverage skyrockets this year:
- $2,085 max penalty per household or 2.5% of their income
- $695 per-person penalty
- $347.50 per-child penalty
These penalties have been climbing steadily every year. A $285 household max in 2014, a $975 max in 2015, and now a $2,085 penalty that’s more than double the 2015 figures.
